HIS Home orphanage visits TLC

Posted by admin on February 24, 2010 under TLC Updates | Be the First to Comment

A group associated with HIS Home orphanage came to visit TLC Barefoot School. The team helped bag food to take to some of the smaller tent cities.
HIS Home for Children orphanage (www.hishomeforchildren.com) is an interdenominational Christian ministry that is based in Lima, Ohio and cares for orphaned and abandoned children in Haiti. The orphanage is next door to TLC. The HIS Home team visited one of our TLC classroom for the younger children which is located on ground level. The team was also able to visit the classrooms of the older children that is located on the second floor of the school building.

The group was able to be at TLC during our morning worship and the reciting of the National Anthem of Haiti.

Statement from Tony Scott, a member of the HIS Home Orphanage team (http://www.thejolietscotts.blogspot.com) – “More about Dottie’s TLC School…the kids that attend TLC are neighborhood kids. I believe all the children there are “sponsored”…which means that someone is paying for their education. Without Dottie finding the kids sponsors and having the school there…these children would most likely never receive an education.
Something we take mostly for granted here in the U.S.–an education–is a luxury in Haiti. An education can open so many doors for these kids as they grow. In a country where the number of children outnumbers the number of adults…an education could change their entire country.”

We were notified that there was another large aftershock. Please keep all of the Haitian people in your prayers.

Ivens loading TEM van to distribute food

Pastor Chuck Martindale from Truth Evangelical Ministries ( www.truthem.org ) has been helping to feed the people of Haiti with help from our staff at TLC Barefoot School. Those helping are, Administrator, Dottie Diehl, Principal Nickson Desrosiers, and Teacher Ivens Bastien.

Nickson and Ivens helping pass out food

They have received food from Feed My Starving Children ( www.fmsc.org). It’s an organization located in Minnesota and is sent to Love A Child ( www.loveachild.com) that is in Fond Parisien, Haiti.
Some of the food has also come from Samaritian’s Purse ( www.samaritanspurse.org ). It’s amazing to see all of the Christian organizations coming together to help the Haitian people.

Dottie has a prayer request – We MUST pray against the spirit of fear. The haitian people are so afraid of their houses falling now that even if the houses are checked and an engineer says all is well they refuse to go back in. The choose to live in the tent or the streets. Our children in the school believe, and we speak of faith and the power of the HOLY SPIRIT over the enemy, but two days ago all of the children went running and screaming out of the school. One child said they felt an aftershock, two teachers agreed, the rest didn’t feel anything, including Mr. Nickson. So we have a real problem. Of course all of the children went home and told their parents, and they swarmed the door of the school the next morning. The parents are demanding that we teach from a tent.

We feel it is all about faith, God makes life and God takes life in HIS timing, not ours. Earthquake, tornado, gun shot, if it is your time and your job here on earth is finished you will leave this earth and spend eternity with Jesus, if you are a believer.

Everyday is a new problem, please continually pray for strength and HIS infinite wisdom to make wise decisions.

Kids learning to love and know Christ

Posted by admin on February 12, 2010 under TLC Updates | Be the First to Comment

Hi all,
This photo will grab your heart. Eleven of the most beautiful young children in the world, because Jesus loves them and they are learning to love and to know HIM. They’re getting ready to go home after school and they have just recieved their rice for the weekend. Aren’t they cute? Also, some of the older, beautiful children of TLC, all happy to receive rice for the weekend.

All of our children will be praying and fasting Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Most will attend services at a church, but some will stay home. We have closed school for Friday and we all unanimously agreed to honor God for these 3 days. All of our staff at the school are off and my staff at the Guesthouse are also off. I have told my guest they can do as they feel called to do, but only leftovers or peanut butter and jelly will be available.

Another photo, I thought you all might like to see just who Adriana is, the little girl with the broken leg. She and her Papa are receiving a God sent gift to help with their needs. I wish all of our recipients of gifts would respond this openly and joyously, he was so excited I felt he wanted to just yell at the top of his lungs. I ask what he would do with this gracious gift and he said, “Oh, Miss Dottie, many things!” You can barely see the cast on her leg, but she is doing fine and has another appointment next Tuesday.

Many of you may have missed some of my updates, so to be sure everyone knows, once again; all of our children are accounted for. We have two that have not returned to school, Guishelna, and Dalande. We do know they are ok and remain in the country side. Then we have two, Sherlie Berthier and Daniel Cherenfont that have returned to school and then chose to leave.

We have been sharing alot about faith and how much God loves all of them and has a purpose for them. Mr. Nickson chose to teach the bible class everyday, whether the older or the younger kids. Yesterday, in closing prayer, he asked Dormius to pray……..wow……seems the Holy Spirit has gotten a hold of this very young man. He prayed and he prayed and he prayed some more. All of the students actually applauded him at the end, it was so moving. Mr. Nickson ask Dormius if he would pray again in this mornings praise and worship, he did, and wow it happened all over again, even our teachers were amazed. God is moving within our children and we feel so blessed to just be alittle part of the bigger picture.

We hope all of you will be joining us in 3 days of prayer and fasting. We feel God wants to change the hearts of the government and we also feel this is the beginning to those changes and for many, many of the Haitian people that are hungry and thirsty for the WORD made flesh.

Please pray for Larsen Etienne, one of our 7th graders, he is having severe stomach problems and we will be taking him to the hospital in the morning. Right now I feel it is stress, but we also feel led to take him to be sure.

We will also be passing out food tomorrow within some of the smaller tent communities. Please pray the Lord will show us where the real need is.

God bless all of you, and we thank you so very much for your support. We are so very blessed to call all of you friends.
In HIS service,
Dottie

Fasting and Prayer for Haiti

Posted by admin on February 8, 2010 under TLC Updates | Be the First to Comment

Update – 2-8-10
In a previous email, I mentioned that we would have three days of fasting and prayer for this country, for it’s government and it’s people to turn back to God. The days will be February 12, 13 and 14. I believe with all my heart that the Christians in the US, Canada, and all around the world, need to pray and fast with this country that is held in the grasp of satan. Many, many people are disheartened and they don’t need another coup, they need God. The time is now, the people are hungry for change.
Please pray for President Pruval to receive wisdom and guidance from God. That the country must return to God and change their ways. That the government and the people stop being corrupt, and they dedicate Haiti back into the hands of God Almighty. President Pruval did acknowledge these days of fasting but did not make it official for the country to honor.
Please stand with us. We serve a mighty God.

Significant Happenings at TLC

Posted by admin on February 5, 2010 under TLC Updates | Be the First to Comment

February 6. 2010

Hi to all,
Once again I need to apologize for not being able to keep everyone posted………I’m sorry, it seems I just cannot find enough hours in the day.

All is going well, the most significant happening is that our TLC graduates are now helping us in return for the many years of education that they received. We have contacted all 7 of them,  and 4 have answered the call to help. This will keep them off of the streets and also keep their minds on biblical constructive thoughts. Mr. Nickson has placed them in the classes needing help with student corrections. Benita, our oldest graduate is helping to teach math, along with Mr. Nickson in between doing his many other job requirements.

We have only 4 students that have not returned to school as of today. I believe I had mentioned in an earlier update that one of our 8th grade students had quit. No reason given. Now another student in the 4th grade is leaving because the father says it is not safe and he can’t come back to school yet. Now the child has been here three days, but it seems the father was out in the country side and did not know his child had returned to school. He does not want him to be in the building and suggested we have school outside somewhere. This father has always been a problem for the 8 years his son has been with us. Sad to say, we can’t move school outside so he is no longer with us. Another child in the 5th grade is also not coming back but it’s due to residing in an orphanage and now being returned to his village in the countryside. We have been told by neighbors that one child has been taken to the DR to reside there with one parent, nothing from the other parent yet. Two others are still in the countryside. Giving us a total of 86 in attendance.

The Lord has blessed us with a wonderful contribution to pay all of our teachers the amount of daily pay they missed during the earthquake crisis. This is an answer to prayer as I had stepped out in faith and told Mr. Nickson to prepare the pay for them. God continues to be awesome.

Thanks to Brother Chuck with Truth Evangelical Ministries we have been blessed with rice, beans, oil, tomato paste, and he picked up our 50 cases of Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) rice packets from Love A Child. I had spoke with Sherry at Love A Child and told them how many we are feeding and asked for another 25, she said no problem and Chuck handled the transporting. We are continuing our feeding on Saturdays for the community, and hope to be able to pass these rice packets out in some of the smaller tent communities. Sad to say, we have received nothing from any aid organization, not even the 82nd Airborne.

I continue to have doctors, surgeons, neurosurgeons, PA’s, nurses and engineers in the Guesthouse. They come and go, some stay only 3 days while some are staying 3 weeks. The purchasing of food is still a hassle, in that it is so far away, I guess I just got spoiled with the convenience of Caribbean Market.

We have a building engineer with us right now, and one just left. We walked the neighborhood with one of our TLC teachers, Ivens as our guide, looking at the collapsed houses of some of our students and of course the TLC apartment. The entire face of the apartment will need to come off and be rebuilt. Knowing full well that building in Haiti is far different than the US, the engineers wanted to see some partially downed houses and other structures, in the attempt to see how things are done here. As we walked and spoke with parents as to why they would not move back into a house, even if we said it was safe and their reply is “the government has to tell us when to move back in”. Well, we did some praying and some soul searching; needless to say we touched on faith, and the mighty power of the Holy Spirit over the government and darkness. I asked them, “what has your government done for you?” NOTHING, they say!!!!! ”OK, if this American Engineer says it’s safe and we buy the cement, would you move back in?” There was hesitation, they do not have faith in the American builder. I sensed we needed a Haitian Engineer, so…..phone calls were made and God truly worked miracles. Long story short, our engineers met with the “TOP,” authority in Haiti, the Minister of Public Works, Amen and Praise the Lord! When they first entered with the Haitian engineer they were told they had 5 minutes because he was busy…….they talked for over an hour……..The door has been opened.  Very shortly, after some paperwork from our side is provided, a certificate will be issued to our US engineer team (coming in) to be accepted by the Haitian government. We can then reach out into the community to help the “poor,” rebuild. This is where the funds that you have been contributing will be utilized. Please keep this in your prayers, we truly want to be God’s hands and feet in real action, if that is what HE has called us to do.

Quite honestly, things seem to be coming back to normal here where we are located. However, Haiti has over 200,000 people living in tents everywhere, that’s not normal. Billions of $$$$$ coming into the country and we are not even seeing it anywhere. Please, I plead with you to fast and pray for this country, it’s government and it’s people to turn back to God. There will be a 3 day fast andprayer held here in Feb. I will get the exact dates for everyone. I believe with all my heart that the Christians in the US, Canada, andall around the world, need to pray andfast with this country that is held in the grasp of satan. Many, many people are disheartened and they don’t need another coup, they need God. The time is now, the people are hungry for change. I need you to pray for God to open the doors, that He might use me to bring about an open forum and a dedication of Haiti back into the hands of God Almighty.

I know this is a little longer than usual, but I felt it important. Oh, by the way this was started at about 9:30 this morning, and it is almost 9:00 at night………..this is what I meant………..too many directions, not enough hours and now it’s time for bed, I hope.

Love to all, and I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but maybe tomorrow………….
In HIS service,
Dottie
PS: I had the building engineer take a look at our teacher Ivens house today and praise the Lord it just has superficial cracking.

Back To School

February 2, 2010

Hello to everyone,
Praise God, pretty good back to school first day…….72 students attended today, and we pray for a few more tomorrow.

We gave all the students the opportunity to share their feelings about the quake, what they fear, where they were, what they did, what ever they chose to talk about to release some of their feelings. I had the 3rd grade and the little stories were very dramatic, but I felt they opened up like never before. Little Handerson gave us a dramatization of how fast he ran after some cement hit him on the head. He does have a nasty gash but healing very well. All expressed how they screamed for Mama. I noticed as I went from room to room that so many could not stay awake. The sleeping in the street is taking it’s toll in many ways. So please pray that they can overcome their fear and also get some much needed rest, I can imagine how their parents must be feeling too.

Sad to say our wonderful math teacher, Mr. Junior Luma, did not return today and the word is he has taken another job. So once again we are in need of a math teacher, but we continue to have faith and know that our mighty God has the perfect plan.

As I headed out to find bread today, I saw a big UN tanker giving free water. All the people needed was something to carry it in.

We have decided to have our TLC graduate students come to help us do our PACE corrections in evey class. This will give them something to do, feed them, and keep them off the streets. Hopefully in a couple of weeks we will hear from the Minister of Education as to placement in other schools.

Calling it an early night.
God’s blessings upon all,
Dottie
